Abbeyfield House Society of Lakefield had organized a walk-a-thon through the streets of Lakefield on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021 to raise funds and awareness for the next steps of the new Abbeyfield House planned for Lakefield.
Abbeyfield houses offer an affordable, family-style home, balancing privacy and companionship with security and independence. Each resident has their own bedroom and ensuite with shared common spaces and meals to foster a sense of family and community. A House Co-ordinator looks after residents’ needs. There are over 20 Abbeyfield Houses in Canada and 800 internationally.
Abbeyfield Lakefield successfully applied for public funding support to help pay for the various studies that need to be done before applying to the Township for a severance of the back parcel of land and a rezoning to house more seniors. But there is still much to be done to make this home a reality!
“We appreciate the support of our community and look forward to joining our neighbours on our walk on September 11. The process to make the Abbeyfield Lakefield house a reality is moving ahead and we appreciate the support our Walkers will provide to help us with that process,” says Ron Black, President of Abbeyfield House Society of Lakefield. “And, it will be a fun – and safe – way to get together and support seniors housing in Lakefield.”
